I have a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan with 153k miles. The transmission slips when I am in drive. If I put the car in 3rd gear it does not slip at all and drives smoothly. All of The fluids are fine. When I am in drive and I accelerate, at first it will do nothing then the engine revs and the transmission will engage. I will also have loss of power to the transmission at cruising speed. I put the car in cruise control and it did the same. I use this car only to go back and forth from work and rarely will ever exceed 45 mph.

Have any warning lights come on? It sounds like a problem with the torque converter, but I can't be sure.
Let me know if the light came on.

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply. There are no lights or codes associated with this. Incredibly it drives and shifts smoothly, yet only in 3rd gear. I find your site very informative. Thanks again.

I feel it either deals with the torque converter or the trans control module (TCM). However, I can't be 100% sure without a code.
