1996 Dodge Caravan shudder & no shift

Some times runs good but to slow down (for traffic) try to acccelarate back to highway speed vehical will shudder befor going then will not shift to high gear. I've heard it could be a shift acctuator any ideas on what else it could be

Hi there,

This could be a number of things, low oil level, slipping, problems with internal oil pressure, you should go get a transmission test and report done, this will give you a better idea as to what the actual problem is, if in doubt about any diagnosis, post the report her for further advice.

Thanks mhp I guess I should have said that fluid level is good and does not have a burnt smell. I will check at local shop to see if they can do a tranny test and get back

96 dodge 3.8 4 speed
tranny check as bad clutch pack coulple grand to fix
question is there only one clutch pack or is there a seperate pack for reverse
car does not work in drive but works in reverse
