I have a 96 Dodge Caravan that has an issue with the speedometer. It will intermittently go out and the service engine light comes on. It has gone as far at the needle going up and down even while standing still. I can also hear the gears trying to figure out where it needs to be. Nor the Mechanic changed the sensor in the transmission but that did not solve the problem he said possible broken wire somewhere. I have seen answers saying it is related to the IC (instrument cluster) board having cracks in the solder connections. The mechanic seems to think otherwise. My question is where?

The cluster won't cause the trans to have problems finding gears. Is it the vehicle speed sensor that he replaced?
