Air Conditioning problem
1996 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 147k miles

so i've had my van for awhile now, and the a/c doesnt seem to work. i've been to a professional shop and been told that its the compressor which will cost me around $1,400.00 to repair. then i had my neighbor who is also a professional in vehicle repair inform me that the "compressor clutch" doesnt work...i'm not sure what the problem may be, but i need answers as soon as possible because summer is approaching fast and i just dont have $1,400.00 to dish out and would only halfway fix the problem...please help...thanks

Apply battery power to the clutch if it comes on -check and test the AC clutch relay and pressure switch if not the clutch itself is defective
