1994 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

We are being told the half carriage on our van may be rotting from the inside out, however when I asked around noone had ever heard of the part (half carriage), is this guy taking us for a ride?

May have meant sub-frame holds engine and trans axle to body. Van is unibody construction.
