There is a burnt paint smell coming from the engine compartment and the paint is blistering on the plenum. Do they go bad and need replacement or is it some other problem?

No the engine is not over heating, the oil, water and trans levels are fine. All the gauges read normal. The only thing that is not normal is the fact that the check engine light will some times come on at high speeds but will reset after I shut the engine off for maybe 2 seconds.I talked to a service station about that and he thought that this happened because of some pollution sensor.

If the check engine light has been on, there will be a code set in the computer which identifies a problem. Take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free so there is no money out of pocket.

Let me know what they tell you.
