1994 Dodge Caravan

Does it make a difference what gear you have it in

No it does not matter what gear.I changed the fluid and filter last night and it did not help.I also discovered that I do not need to wait after turning the motor off.I turn the motor off and start it back up and it will go 100 feet or so and then sounds like I am in neutral.I can do this over and over.I also can go in drive 10 or so feet put it in reverse and go back and forth over and over with no problem.

I'm just kinda guessin here but to me I would question a shift silinoid or maybe the torque convertor. Do you have to back it up or could you just shift to nuetral then back to drive, only reason I ask that is maybe the fluid fills the convertor one way and then fills the next.
