I have been driving my Dodge Van for nearly a year since I bought it and never once has it shown signs of trouble starting. Now, while at work last night, I tried to start it and it just kept turning over and over. I know it's not the battery because a friend offered to jump me off, as if that would help. I imagine that it's either the fuel filter or fuel pump. The van has been run out of gas a lot because my fuel gauge doesn't work and it always shows it's on full. Where could I find the filter, the pump, and how would I know which is the problem without taking it to service station that I can not afford. I am really poor obviously, or my vehicle wouldn't be nearly 18 years old.

hi, use a gage and check fuel pressure, first. If you think it is a fuel issue? Some of the national brand autostores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage. You can call and ask. Even if there isn't any pressure, I'd still want to check for voltage and ground at the pump connector. The pump should be in the tank. The fuel filter shows to be under the vehicle, passenger side, in front of gas tank.

Check for trouble codes. you should be able to get some mil codes by cycling the ignition switch. You turn key till dash lites come on, no further, cycle key, on--off, on--off, on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.
