My van will not go out of 1st. Gear after it is warmed up or running for a few min help

If you have a 3-speed automatic, the band or other valve that operates its apply circuit hydraulically is not working. If your throttle pressure is ok, or too high, it should still allow governor valve increase to allow an upshift, so the governor valve can also be sticking. If you drop the pan, the band can be inspected. OK Have a good holiday. K
