1989 Dodge Caravan exhaust

I just bought my van used a couple of months ago from private owner and now it is starting to smoke from the exhaust pipe evrytime i start it and continues while driving. The smoke is white and semi thick and strong smell. What does this mean? and can i fix this myself?

Hi there,

If it smells sweet, this will be coolant, check for coolant loss and get a head check done next.
