Removal
1. Disconnect hoses from steering gear (if equipped). Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Separate tie rod ends from steering knuckles. Disconnect engine damper strut from crossmember (if equipped). 2. Support front suspension crossmember with floor jack. Remove front suspension crossmember bolts. Lower front suspension crossmember so steering gear can be disconnected from steering column. 3. Remove steering gear retaining bolts. Remove steering gear. The steering column coupling will disconnect from the steering column.
Installation
1. To install, reverse removal procedure. On manual steering gears, ensure serrations are aligned. During installation, an assistant will be needed to align steering column coupling with steering column. 2. Install all crossmember bolts. Tighten RIGHT REAR crossmember bolt first. Install remaining components and fill steering gear. Adjust toe-in. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT section.
CAUTION:Tighten RIGHT REAR crossmember bolt to specification prior to tightening remaining crossmember bolts. ALL crossmember bolts MUST be tightened to 90 ft. Lbs. (122 N.M).
