My engine overheated and froze, according to the repair shop I need a short block and some other items replaced. The estimate given to me was $4,500. I'm trying to decide if i should go for that, or buy a complete used engine with low mileage ($1,000) and have them install it (new warranty for engine). What do you suggest?

So you didn't buy the car new? Is the remainder of the factory warranty in effect? If not I know which way I would go. Get a good used engine...
