Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Dodge Avenger 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

When finding oil on the spark plugs does that mean that the piston rings are bad and need replaced?

Yes it is oil. No it's not going through a lot of oil, other than the oil pan gasket is bad and there is oil all over the bottom of the engine. When I was changing the spark plugs and wires I noticed the oil on the number one cylinder spark plug and the number four cylinder spark plug. Two and three seem to be fine, there is no oil on them. They were pretty wet with oil. I haven't noticed any discolored smoke or anything like that. I'm leaning more towards the lifter seals, or the piston rings possibly is the colbrit.

piston rigns you should be seeing blue smoke. could be worn valve guides and valve seals causing the oil to leak in.
