I have a 1999 dodge avenger es I accidentally drove into a flood street i turn around and made it out of the water then the car shut off. I tired cranking it but all it does is click motor will not turn over. Tried jumping it off but it still jus clicks. Motor attempted to turn over but over for half a second.

Hi:
Remove the spark plugs and make sure there is no water in the cylenders. If there is, the engine won't turn over. Also, check the oil for water contamination. If there is, remove the chance the oil and filter before starting.

Let me know what you find when you remove the plugs. Once they are out, try to crank it with the starter. It won't start without the plugs, but if water is the problem, it will at least turn over.

Let me know what you find.
