My 1998 Dodge avenger will not pass inspection. Upon having it scanned it read cat converter. The dealer does not seem to want to change it. Therefore we have no car, paid all the money for it. The inspection station said that was the problem. They keep giving me garbage about an 02 thing. How can we get them to fix the problem so we can get the car back. It is under warranty for 30 days, I bet if it weren't under warranty they would fix whatever we say. We are very frustrated and carless. They have the car and say they want to drive it a few days to see what is triggering the engine light to go on. I am ready to return the car for good. Any ideas on how to deal with this situation. This is MA they have tough inspections.

Your'e in a tough spot. The dealer is too. As a dealer you just don't throw in a converter based on someone else's word.
You can ask the dealer that if you put in the converter through your shop and it fixes it, will you get re-imbursed?
Was there a rental car agreement at the time of purchase?
Does the state have a motor vehicle dept that can help advise?
If I was the dealer, I would provide either prompt turn around time or a rental based on what you are saying. It is possible that there is an oxygen sensor problem going on causing a catalyst effieciency problem.
