1987 Dodge Aries starter won't turn off

Hello, when I start up my car the starter will not disengage, I then turn off the ignition and pull the key out and the starter is still engaged and turning the engine over, only when I disconnect the battery terminal the starter stops, I installed a new ignition switch and the same thing happens.

try unhooking the smaller wire at the starter and see if that works. if it still cranks over then your starter motor is no good. if it doesnt you have a shorted wire.

You might try unplugging the starter relay. See if that helps.
