I ran out of gas and after refilling, my car stays in first gear and can go into reverse but then nothing after like 2 minutes.

Hi,

I'm not saying it isn't related to the PCM, but it doesn't make sense that it would have failed by running out of gas.

Are you able to shift from first to second manually? Also, before making any decisions, have you had the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes? If you haven't, I would do this before replacing any parts to see if there is another reason.

Below is a link that explains how to scan the can-bus. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the modules/computers are tied together via a few wires. They communicate back and forth via this circuit. If you scan the CAN, it will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

If you did scan the vehicle, let me know if codes were found and what they are.
Let me know,

Take care,

Joe
