Loud fuel pump

If the pump is getting loud, then it is probably nearing the end of its life. It may last another year, another decade, or just another ten minutes. I would suggest at least that you go ahead and get another pump ordered. You can save quite a bit of money ordering from Amazon or RockAuto, but you will want to do it before you actually have to have the pump.

My setup is: stock fuel pump in to a surge tank then surge tank to fuel rail using an inline fuel pump 044 Borsch. Yesterday I replace 044 with a new one and the stock one is unable to keep up as far as pressure goes with the 044 even with two. lts surge tank. So today I am shopping for an in-tank high pressure fuel pump able to keep surge tank and 044 happy. I will keep you updated with progresses as they unfold.

Genuine Toyota fuel pump is $650.00 from dealer.
I purchased a stock in-tank fuel pump from local shop. Apparently they been used on the V8 so they strong enough to feed the 044. I took car to my local mechanic and he got the fuel tank out in ten minutes. And he went to test it and he was like pump works. So I told him yes pump works but after twenty to thirty minute drive the inline starts to be loud. Since is a brand new I am 100% sure that was not the problem. So I told him to get a new in-tank fuel pump and to fit it. And that was that! I will pick up the ute tomorrow morning.

If I may jump in here I have seen the fuel pressure regulator cause noise in the fuel system. Can you remove the vacuum line to see if the noise stops? Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Wow Ken, thanks for the reply now that you mention it. I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator installed and the vacuum line was plugged direct to the manifold, so it was jumping up and down in pressure from 48 psi up to 55 psi (under load). What I did now that you mention it is: I relocate the vacuum line on top the throttle body and the pressure is now constant at 50 psi. as far as sound goes both pumps are operating correctly at this stage.

Is 60-65 psi pressure too high? I removed the adjustable fuel pressure regulator and installed the Toyota one but now with two fuel pumps pressure is 60-65 psi. Should I be worry about it or does it not matter?

Here are the Toyota specifications. With key on engine off pressure specifications are 38-44 P.S.I. With engine running the specs are 31-37 P.S.I. with truck Idling. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Thank you Danny. I decided to remove the inline fuel pump and the fuel pressure at iddle dropped to 45 psi witch is in my eyes acceptable.

It is nothing special but it reads and clears P0xxx codes. Have not found a post-1996 car that it will not work with yet.
