Took my car to AutoZone because the check engine light came on. Got error code P0011 intake camshaft position timing- over advanced. The mechanic said the variable valve timing solenoid needs replacing. Said it costs a lot of money to fix. I just got the car in May, did an oil change seven days after i got the car and was planning on doing a tune up yesterday until the mechanic told me the error code. Do I need to take my car back to the dealer?

Hi Naomi,

This code is a pretty involved repair if it is the solenoid. I attached the diagnostic process if you want to go through and make sure. However, if it is the issue and you do not want to perform the repair it would need to go to someone familiar with these variable timing systems. This is not necessarily the dealer but you don't want to just take it anywhere. Just ask them if they are familiar with VVT systems.

Attached is the diagnosis it includes a description as well.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks
