Will not fire

New alternator fitted ran perfect 20 miles then whilst driving radio miss tuned all lights on dash when stopped wont fire. new battery, plugs cleaned , smelt of petrol, fuses checked.

I need to confirm that this is for an A8. They didn't come with a V6. Is this a 4.2L V8?

Here is a link that discusses the most common causes of a crank no start. Since you smell fuel, there is a good chance you lost spark. So, here is the link I mentioned as well as one that explains how to check for spark.
