I changed the distributor on my 2.8' eng, I'm not sure I got it back in right it back fired and run really bad I'm thinking it out 180,how would I no that and does the rotor have to be pointing at #1 th when putting it in any help ty.

Hi,

When it is installed, the number one cylinder needs to be at top dead center (TDC). Once that is set, then the rotor must be pointed at the cylinder 1 spark plug wire on the distributor.

I attached the directions below for the removal and installation. Take a look and let me know if it helps.
