disassembling the steering column

How do you get the housing for the ignition key off of the column. I took out the three screws - do you know how it slides off? It is a tilt wheel column on a 77 el camino. Do i need to take the ignition switch off so the rod can slide out?

Unbolt lower column the cover will come off
