I started hearing a whining sound coming from my differential. I suspected rear wheel bearings, but there is not play in either hubb. I'm going to replace the gear oil today. I noticed it calls for SAE 75W-140 Full Synthetic. Can I use SAE 75W-90 with limited slip added?

Normally whine is gear related and not axle bearings. Does the sound change if you apply throttle or let off so it coasts? Can you tell if it's the front or rear? Does it change when you turn left or right?
As for the oil, you should use the full synthetic 75-140 to protect the bearings and gears. The 75-90 is a bit lighter than they need.
