My car gives off a loud thumping sound when taking sharp turns. I was told it was due to a binding differential. If that is the case would this also cause the need to replace the transmission?

This can be the wrong oil in the final drive has any work been preformed recently, i would also drain the diff oil and inspect for metal fragments, if there is silver specks in the oil this will be bearing or tooth metal and a sign of serious wear.
