differencial gear oil front wheel drive

2.2L • 4 CYL • FWD • AUTOMATIC

Have a slight hum in the front. I was told it is in the front differential. I was told I could drain the gear oil out and replace it with 85 140 purple gear oil and that will stop the hum. It just started, the car has 185000 miles and is used to go around town, can you help, please. retired veterian

The oil you want to use is a full Synthetic manual oil, the diff on your car uses Dexron 11 or 111 type auto trans oil, using the manual type oil will damage the differential.
