So, I'm looking to do a 5-speed auto swap ik they came with them in other countries the size should be the exact same if I grab a TCU for it if that would work that is or are the ECM and TCU tied together. If so, would I be better of getting one from an overseas model?

Swapping a 5-speed automatic transmission into a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante can be a challenging task, and there are several factors to consider before proceeding with such a modification.

Compatibility: Before attempting any transmission swap, you need to ensure that the 5-speed automatic transmission you intend to install is compatible with your specific model and year of Diamante. Mitsubishi may have used different electronic systems, wiring harnesses, and control modules for different markets, so it's essential to verify compatibility.

ECM and TCU: In modern vehicles, the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Transmission Control Unit (TCU) are often separate modules that work in conjunction to control the engine and transmission functions. They communicate with each other to ensure proper gear shifts and overall vehicle performance. Swapping to a different transmission may require changes to both the ECM and TCU to ensure compatibility and proper functioning.

Wiring and Sensors: A transmission swap will likely require modifications to the wiring harness and sensors to accommodate the new transmission. Additionally, some sensors and components may need to be relocated or added to support the 5-speed automatic transmission.

Overseas Models: If the Diamante came with a 5-speed automatic transmission in other countries, it's possible that the components, including the ECM and TCU, could be compatible. However, it's crucial to thoroughly research and verify that the overseas model's transmission and associated components are a suitable match for your specific Diamante.

Legal and Emission Compliance: In some regions, modifications that involve changing the vehicle's original emissions equipment or control systems may not comply with local laws and regulations. It's essential to check your local regulations before proceeding with any significant modifications.
