Hi,
The only code I'm able to read is P0457. Is there more on the paper?
As far as the code is concerned, it indicates there is a leak in the evaporative emissions system (EVAP). What the EVAP does is this. It is designed to prevent gas fumes from entering the atmosphere. It is a sealed system and at certain times, the fumes are allowed to enter the engine to be burned.
The P0457 indicates there is a small leak in the system. This could be something as simple as a loose fuel cap, a fuel cap that has a damaged O-ring, or even a small amount of rust where it mounts. See pic 1 below. Check the two things I highlighted. Also, make sure the cap is tight.
If that is good and tight, then here is what I suggest. A small leak is difficult to locate. As a result, the best thing to do is to have the EVAP system smoke tested. This procedure injects smoke into the system at very low pressure. If there is a leak, the smoke will escape at that point.
Please keep in mind, the vehicle is still safe to drive, and it is very unlikely that you will experience any drivability issues. However, it should be repaired.
Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.
Take care,
Joe
