I tried to start my second vehicle (Nissan Rogue) using cables. Hooked it up positive to positive. I started my good car, Then tried to start my 1997 Ford Ranger. It didn't start. As I tried again I heard the engine in my car slowing down until it stopped running.
So what I am trying to do now is restart the Rogue with.
Is a phone charger enough to recharge the battery?

What to check next

Diagnostic guidance. Suggested checks and possible repairs are separate from the owner's reported results.

Have both vehicles' batteries and the donor vehicle's charging system checked before another jump attempt. Use an automotive charger compatible with the battery and follow the vehicle's specified charging connections. Clarify the exact cable connections and whether the Rogue now clicks, cranks or has no electrical response.

Cell phones typically run on 5.0 volts. Even if a small charger like that could develop 13 volts or more, it would take the better part of a week to charge a car battery.

If you simply tried cranking the truck engine a few times, that alone is not enough to discharge the battery in the running vehicle. Sounds like there is a problem in the Ranger that is loading down the battery.

If the Rogue was connected and it drew it down until the engine shut down I would say it needs attention, Jump starting another vehicle shouldn't be able to do that. Even a fully dead battery in the Ranger shouldn't do that. If you are sure the cables were connected properly then I would plan on at least a new battery for the Rogue as well as having the charging system tested as it should have been able to keep running. What does the Rogue do when you try to start it? Do the headlights come on at all? Have you ever had it start slowly or any issues like a charge light coming on?

dead battery on Nissan Rogue?

The owner described a jump-start attempt involving a Nissan Rogue and a Ford Ranger. The running vehicle slowed and stopped during the attempt. The owner then asked whether a phone charger could recharge the Rogue's battery.

Reported outcome: No test results or repair outcome were supplied.

The owner corrected which vehicle was initially being started, and the complete cable arrangement remained unclear. The incident alone does not establish that either battery or alternator requires replacement.
