My check engine light is out and mechanic cannot diagnose the problem. If I replace dashboard wire harness would that fix check engine light? Where other than salvage yard could I look for one?

Before you get all wrapped around the axle, the normal thing to do would be to check if that bulb is burned out. Even if it is, diagnostic fault codes can still be read with a code reader or scanner.

If the bulb is good, the circuit in the Engine Computer that drives it could have a problem, and that could potentially be related to the computer not communicating with a scanner. That would require a different Engine Computer, not an instrument cluster.
