Dashboard lights turn on and car shuts off

In the middle of driving, the dashboard lights will come on and the car slows down and stops. This has happened randomly a few times and all I have to do to keep going is turn it off and turn it on again.

Is the engine stalling when this happens? Also, has the check engine light been staying on since this started?

Does it always restart right away after this happens? Does it only happen when the engine is warm, or has it also happened when it was still cold?
