Dashboard coming apart

Last summer I saw on the driver side dash near the window a strip of yellow however I thought it was a speaker. As the last 4 or 5 months have passed the strip is now about 12 inches long and 2 inches wide.

I called Volvo and they said they would look into it. I called again today and they hopefully will repair it some day.

I am now interested in trading the car in as afraid something else will happen. I am finding out the value has now diminished.

What should I expect to recover or do as having owned high end cars for 50 years have never had a problem with a company?

In my opinion, if this is the only issue with the vehicle, I would hold onto it until you have other reason to reconsider. The dash issue should be taken care of by them as I have heard of this issue before and they have replaced this in other cases.

Clearly that can change from case to case but I would get them to fix it if they are going to even if you do sell the vehicle. Clearly someone is going to want to pay less if this is not repaired.

As for the issue itself this is not uncommon on most any vehicle. The dash is exposed to the sun the most in the vehicle and it just drys out and cracks. This can be avoided by putting a protective cleaner on them like Armour all or an equivalent. So if they fix it, I would recommend this as they are likely not going to do it again if this happens again.

Lastly, as you see the value of vehicles drops so much that it doesn't make sense to get rid of them unless there are other reasons. So with just this dash issue, I would follow through with Volvo and see that they fix it and then keep it if there are no other issues.
