Dash lights and interior lights malfunctioning

It seems as if the switch functions are swapped for my dash lights and interior lights on my car. When I twist the lever on the left side of the steering wheel from the off position, my interior lights come on (where my dash lights should come on and the brightness be adjustable). Like wise, when I further twist the knob to turn on the front and then rear interior light, my dash lights come on. In order to have dash lights at night, I now have to have my interior lights on as well.
I just recently bought this car which is in very good physical condition. I know the taillights affect the functioning of the dash lights, and all my taillights are functioning as they should.
Any suggestions?

Good morning,

I attached a diagram for you of the lights. The multi function switch controls both the interior lights and the park lights.

I bet the switch is shorted internally causing a crossover from interior to park lights.

MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH

REMOVAL
1. Open hood.

2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
3. Remove both upper and lower steering column shrouds.

4. Disconnect both posi-lock harness connectors at the rear of the multi-function switch.
5. Remove multi-function switch mounting screws and remove switch from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: If replacing the multi-function switch, the combination flasher and windshield wiper/washer switch must be transferred to new multi-function switch. Remove the two torx screws retaining the wiper/washer switch, place next to the new multi-function switch and install two screws.

1. Place switch into place and install mounting screws. Torque multi-function switch to column retaining screws to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.).
2. Connect both posi-lock harness connectors at the rear of the multi-function switch.
3. Install both upper and lower steering column shrouds.
4. Connect the battery negative cable.
5. Close hood.
6. Verify vehicle and system operation.

Thank you for replying so fast. If that is the case, would you even bother troubleshooting the short or just go ahead and replace the switch? What is the possibility of the short being fixable?

I would replace the switch. The part that is shorted is not accessible for any repair. It is inside the switch itself.
