Failed inspection because of no check engine light. After disassembling my gauge cluster this dash does not have an led for check engine. Nothing, just a hole. This is the factory cluster. did i get a one off or bad cluster?

Maybe, you are supposed to have a check engine light bulb. Here it is in the cluster wiring diagrams, does it look like it has been removed? I would get another bulb and holder and install it. There might be trouble codes which is why it was removed. Did you buy the car new or? Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Good call, does the circuit board on the rear of the cluster have provisions for a small twist in bulb socket? If you upload an image of the rear of the cluster I can see for you.

Those are bulb socket holes, I can't tell if there is a conductive metal surface at the socket hole, or is it just board? This is what should be in there if there is a conductive material. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Yep, it looks like someone removed it, good find, let me know if it starts working once you get the replacement bulb and socket.
