Failed inspection because of no check engine light. After disassembling my gauge cluster this dash does not have an led for check engine. Nothing, just a hole. This is the factory cluster. Did I get a one off or bad cluster?

Maybe, you are supposed to have a check engine light bulb. Here it is in the cluster wiring diagrams, does it look like it has been removed? I would get another bulb and holder and install it. There might be trouble codes which is why it was removed. Did you buy the car new or? Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Was bought used and this is the first time I've had any problem with inspection. Disassembled and there are no LEDs installed under cover. Apparently never installed. Thanks for the answer.

Good call, does the circuit board on the rear of the cluster have provisions for a small twist in bulb socket? If you upload an image of the rear of the cluster I can see for you.

When I get home after work I'll double check, but I don't think it has. Just a circuit board and hole.

Those are bulb socket holes, I can't tell if there is a conductive metal surface at the socket hole, or is it just board? This is what should be in there if there is a conductive material. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Is there a conductive metal surface at the socket hole, or is it just board? It is hard to tell from the image?

Yep, it looks like someone removed it, good find, let me know if it starts working once you get the replacement bulb and socket.

It works. Thanks for the help. Oh, FYI the sockets are a size T5 if anyone ever asks again.
