My granddaughter's car is experiencing the issue listed above that has progressed to affecting the radio as well .any clue would be appreciated.

I just ran through schematics for the courtesy lights and instrumentation lights. They are all on separate grounds, so that isn't an issue. The radio is powered differently. When you say radio, are you referring the the lighting on the radio or the radio itself?
As far as the instrument panel and courtesy lights, the only common component is the panel light control switch that could affect the radio lighting, but not the actual radio.

thank you Joe . hmm, could be more than one thing going on. the radio cuts off not just the light .

I don't see a link between the two. Start with the basics. Check to make sure the battery is fully charged, the terminals are clean and tight, and the alternator is properly charging. With today's vehicles, low voltage can cause all kinds of issues.
