Cylinder five misfire after replacing the valve cover gaskets?

It’s my mom's car, I had my boyfriend change the valve cover gaskets. Everything went smoothly, but after he was done the car ran like complete trash. He’s changed the spark plugs it could be, checked the coils by moving them, changed all plug wires, took it to someone and they checked it and turned off the fuel injections/pump? With some fancy code checker apparently. Now we’re completely out of options, i came here for at least some kind of answers.

Hi,

Chances are the coil is not fully connected or was damaged when removed. I need you to try something. Switch the cylinder 5 coil with one of the others on the engine. Clear the code and see if it comes back as a different cylinder with a misfire. If it does, replace the coil.

Let me know what you find.

Hi Joe, i miscommunicated with the question and didn’t fully explain. That’s what I meant when I said “checked the coils by moving them.” We’ve moved them and it still stayed cylinder misfire 5. Also, forgot to mention we don’t think it’s an intake air leak either, we’ve sprayed wd-40 around the intake and no bubbles, or anything come around. Thanks again, Caitlyn.

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. If it was a vacuum leak or a fuel-related issue, it would likely affect other cylinders as well.

The one thing I would check is the wiring to the fuel injector for that cylinder. The harness runs along the valve cover. See if something was damaged or disconnected.

Also, do you feel the misfire at all times or is there something that seems to trigger it?

If it is constant, remove the spark plug from that cylinder to see if it is wet or dry.
