Installed new fuel injector and fuel regulator. Fold the plug it's fouled with fuel. Sound checked the new injector, it's clicking properly. I confirmed that that cylinder had spark, the plugs and the wires are also functioning properly. It's my understanding that this engine does not have variable timing capabilities.

Checked compression, cylinder one is 5 lb below minimum. I'm not burning oil and I'm not losing coolant. Also, the fuel pump is 8 pounds below spec.

Even with the misfire, the engine runs smoothly. The other three cylinders show sign of proper function ( spark plugs indicate neither rich nor lean condition)

I suspect I have a valve seating issue. Is there anything else I can check for before I rip the cylinder head off the engine?

Hi,

To determine if it is a valve issue or compression issue, you need to perform a wet test on the cylinder.

Basically, remove the spark plug and place about a tablespoon of motor oil in the cylinder. At that point, check the compression. If there is no change, it's either a head gasket or valve. If the compression increases, then its rings.

What was the compression of all cylinders? As far as fuel pressure, when you check it and then shut off the engine, how quickly does it drop off?

I need to know one other thing. You indicated the spark plug is gas-fouled. If that is the case, then chances are it is being caused by the low compression. If you hear the injector clicking, then that is my first suspect.

Let me know.
