What causes the CV axle to come out of transmission?

What causes the CV axle to come out of the knuckle on transmission side it has come out twice. I replaced it the first time, put the new one in and drove it, and it came out again.

It sounds like the retainer ring is weak or missing, can you remove the CV axle to confirm? Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.

Yep, you should be able to. I would call first, it is a "CV axle retainer clip".
