Yes it can. If the joint in the CV axle is binding then it can cause it to do this. However, I would want to confirm the axle is the issue before replacing it.

Can you give a little detail about how you are testing this? Are you lifting just one wheel or are both front tires off the ground when you are checking it?

Normally they start clicking first but if the tire doesn't spin, we need to eliminate the other possible causes first.

Let me know and we can go from there. Thanks

Okay. Just try the same test with both front wheels off the ground. The front axles are connected through the trans-axle so I imagine that is what you are dealing with.

Are you having an issue or is this just something you noticed?

I am having an issue. The vehicle front end shakes when driving and steering wheel vibrates, I figured it was either the CV axle or the wheel hub, but I'm trying to figure it out before I buy the parts and do the repair. I'll jack it up and check again right now. Thank you

Steering wheel shaking and vibration while driving is normally a tire vibration more then a CV axle. I would suggest inspecting the tires and even swapping the front to the rear and see if the vibration move from the steering wheel to a feeling in the seat. When you feel it in the seat, that normally means it is in the rear of the vehicle. At least at this point you know it is most likely the tire but it could still be the wheel itself.

Just rotated all the tires and drove it down the road and that seemed to have fixed the issue, plus I noticed that one tire in the front was 235/60/r16 and the other 3 are 235/65/r16. So one of the front tires wasn't the same height as the other so that one is now on the rear. I'll be getting a new one as soon as I can.

So I was wrong. I just drove it further and it started to shake and vibrate again at about 50 mph.

Was the vibration more in the seat this time? I still am not convinced that it is not the tires with that info about the tires. So if you have mismatched tires, I would suggest looking at replacing them. How much tread is left on them and what does the wear look like?

If you want to get some pictures of the tires from a couple different angles and I can help. Here is a guide and attachment that will help:

The shake is still in the string wheel. Can it needing alignment cause it to shake so violently? I will inspect tire treads here in a little bit.

Okay, I doubt the alignment is causing the vibration but it can't be completely eliminated. While it is less likely to be tires due to the front and rear tires not making much difference but we may need to have them balanced just to make sure.

After that, did this just start one day or is this something that has been getting progressively worse?
