When I switch on the cruise control an orange indicator comes on and when I press to engage the cruise control the light changes to green but nothing happens. The car is about thirteen years old and the mileage is correct. I have had the car three months and it is still in almost showroom condition. Everything worked as it should up to now and I have done over 2,000 miles. I use the CC all the time so I find it annoying when I cannot use it.
Any advice would be appreciated. The car is RHD as I am in Australia.
Cheers

Have the battery load tested and the charging system as well. Mazda has had an issue where a failing battery will disable some items, cruise being one, if the battery or charging system isn't 100% correct.

Hi Harvey. Ours is doing the exact same. We got the car secondhand recently ours is an 04 Mazda 3 sp23 and it is doing exactly the same as you stated. We have replace the battery but this has not fixed the problem. Ours is manual and I am really missing my cruise control. Did you get yours sorted?

I would check the fuse first and if that is okay 9 times out of 10 it is the clock spring in the steering wheel that goes bad. But to be sure let follow this guide and use the cruise control wiring diagrams below to confirm the failure. This guide will give you an idea of what you are in for when replacing the spring.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.
