Battery couldn't start car, but lights did come on. Tried to jump the car but like an idiot had the cables crossed. Horn went off. Disconnected one end then reconnected only for horn to blow again. Realized had jumpers on wrong terminal. Nothing works in the car. Bought a new battery and car is still dead. Is there a fuse that may have blown or is it something worse.
Thanks for the insight.

Hi,

Right off the positive terminal on the battery is what is called a fusible link. Basically, it will look like a regular wire, but it functions as a fuse. I believe it is a 12 gauge link and it should be white. See pic 1 below. If that has failed, it will shut power off to everything.

First, locate the link I mentioned and then check to see if there is power at both ends of it. If I am looking at the schematic correctly, it should be right off the battery. There should be a fusible link box there.

Here is a link you may find helpful:

Hopefully, that is the issue. Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, please let me know if the vehicle has a 1.6L or a 1.8L engine and if anything electrical works.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you for the quick response. The motor is the 1.6ltr. I will order that link and see what happens.

Hi,

Before you order it, take a test light and see if power is to it on both sides. That way you will save money if it isn't bad.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
