Crankshaft sensor installation

Have taken old one out but new one wont slide back in. Is there a certain way of replacing it?

They look the same thickness.

They do look the same does the old one go back in okay? Can you look down inside the cavity to see if something has fallen down in front of the sensor access hole? Please post pictures.
