The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer. See picture 1.
Based on your description, it does sound like a problem with the sensor. Take a look through this link.

PROCEDURES
Crankshaft position sensor removal
1. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor connector from generator drive belt adjusting bar
2. Remove right hand fender apron seal
3. Remove no.1 timing belt cover
4. Remove crankshaft position sensor
- remove the bolt and disconnect the crankshaft position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor installation
1. Install crankshaft position sensor
- install the crankshaft position sensor with the bolt.
torque: 9.5 nm (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lb)
2. Install no.1 timing belt cover
3. Install right hand fender apron seal
4. Connect crankshaft position sensor connector to generator drive belt adjusting bar
