Does the timing belt have to be removed to replace the CPS? My Chilton manual says it does, but I have seen diagrams showing otherwise. Thank you in advance for your answer.

According to Mitchell 1 data base, the timing belt does require to be removed to access the crank position sensor.

Okay. And as long as the timing marks are lined up on both cams and the crankshaft that is TDC for cylinder number one correct?

Okay. Thank you very much. Just never done anything involved with timing and no shop around me wants to touch it because of it being an interference engine. Mitsubishi wants almost $900.00 to do the job. Does not look difficult just looks meticulous. I will trust my Chilton and go with it, but thanks again and have a great day.

Just take your time, use a white pen to highlight all the timing marks so you can see them easily. It is not hard, but you must pay attention. Take pictures and notes to help you remember small details any you will not go wrong. Thank you for using 2carpros.
