I took my truck in to have the belt replaced and the thermostat replaced. When I went to get it there was a loud knocking noise when I started the truck and now there telling me that a crankshaft bearing is bad. There was literally nothing wring when I took it in.

Hello again,

Hmm. Usually a crankshaft bearing will go bad over time, not just instantly show up. Where do you live?

Thanks,
Alex

Kissimmee Florida and this was at a Firestone here. I suspect it was done intentionally to rack up charges.

Hello,

Okay, well that doesn't seem right. I live in California and we have a state agency called the California Bureau of Automotive Repair, or BAR, for short. They are a regulatory agency that makes sure that the customer is not taken advantage of by repair shops. You might want to check and see if Florida has a similar agency. Replacing main bearing is a major job. I have included the parts and labor sheet for this in the diagrams down below for you. To get the total labor cost, take the time allotted and multiply it by the shop labor rate per hour. Please keep us informed.

Thanks,
Alex
