The truck listed above is a 1500. Truck ran fine until the fuel pump went out. I replaced the fuel pump now it won’t start. It cranks over good and acts like it wants to start but it won’t. Good spark and 60 PSI to the rail. Check engine light is on. Hook a scanner up to it scanner reads it has no codes. I deleted the “codes”, and the check engine light went off. Cranked the truck over once and the check engine light came on. Hooked the scanner back up and the scanner still reads no codes found. Anyone have an idea on why the truck won’t start and run?

Hi,

Try something for me. See if it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, it isn't getting the fuel.

Keep in mind that you have good pressure and spark, so it should run. If it doesn't, we need to check for power at the fuel injectors. At each injector, there will be two wires. Each injector will have a pink wire that should have 12v with the key on or in the start position. I need you to confirm power is present.

Note, four of the injectors get power from injA fuse and four get it from injB fuses in the under-hood fuse box. Both fuses are 15 amp. If you don't have power at the injector pink wire, check those fuses.

I attached a couple of pictures below you may find helpful. If it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid, I suspect one or both of these fuses have failed.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care and Happy 4th of July!!!

Thank you for the quick response! Gave the starting fluid a shot. It blew a flame out of the intake. I checked each injector with the key on and every injector reads 12v. All the fuses are good.

Hi,

Wow! Did you use an excessive amount of fluid? If it fired back through like that, it sounds like we have a timing issue or a few burnt intake valves.

Do me a favor. Record the engine cranking and upload it for me to hear. I should be able to tell if it is a timing or compression issue. Or here is a link that explains how to test engine compression. This will tell us if the timing is an issue or if there are a couple of weak cylinders.

If you don't have a compression gauge, most parts stores will lend one to you.

Also, since this happened, it doesn't sound like an ignition issue.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
