Shut off while running hard to get it restarted, possible crank shaft sensor issue

My car was running fine, I left it running on idle, all of a sudden my truck turned off. I could not get it started again so I waited a few minutes, tried to turn it over about nine times then finally it turned over when I did not give up turning the key. It drove for a bit, I turned it off it, it happened again. So I went and bought the crankshaft sensor. I have had my truck parked in the garage for about five hours. I went out to start it and it started right up. Do you think it is still the sensor that is the problem? I drove my truck to Pep Boys and they were getting that type of code

It could be but it is a guess. When it does not start, does the tachometer move up when you crank it?

Lets start with the code. What was the code number?

The rpm's are really low and you can hardly hear my truck is on. I did not hear the code he gave me he just said it was a code for the position sensor. Also, when it did happen the slip light came on and another light came on as well. When I turned my truck back on after it was sitting a few hours neither of the lights were on anymore.

Did they record it on your receipt? They should have written a story.

I do need that code as there are many codes for the sensor.

When it does not start, does the tachometer move up a little on the dash?

Just raises a tiny bit. They did not give me any paperwork or anything at all. They put the machine in there and just told me that was the code. The guys had a wad of crumbled up papers, maybe he was supposed to give them to me.

Yes they were. You should have got all those papers.

If the tachometer moved, then the crank sensor was working and sending a signal to the PCM.

It also could be a fuel delivery issue. Checking the fuel pressure would be next step.
