It broke off in the engine block. Can push back down on to the oil pan?

You might try to drill it but I kind of think it will not work. The sensor will hit the crank shaft If you can drill a hole then use a screw to screw into it you may get it out otherwise you will have to pull the pan and use like a screwdriver to push it out. It is magnetic however. Here is what the crank sensor looks like. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Yep, if you can hold it in place a drill bit and a fine thread drywall screw might get it out. I have used a torch to heat up the tip of a right angle pick and used that to melt a hole and turn the pick as it enters the plastic and used that to remove them as well. If it broke off flush at the block you might be able to push it against the crank and get a better grip on it. Good luck.

I need to replace it because it's causing my no spark problem and haven't had much luck finding out how to do it. I know how to do the 24x sensor that's under the power steering pump but not the 7x that's at the rear of the engine.

Hello,
There are two sensors on the V6 engine one on each side of the block the 4 cylinder has just one crankshaft angle sensor. Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job.

Can I have your complete VIN number? There is no 3.8 in 2002. There is a 3.4 and that is a completely different motor.

Now it still has a miss and idols bad and loses power when I try to drive it and it has a bad smell of burnt gas when it idols. What could it be? I was told it needs a new map flow sensor.

Scan for codes and check the fuel pressure with a gauge, most auto parts stores rent it. If a 300 series code like 300-306 comes up then check resistance of wires and coils. II that is good it is probably another sensor or compression.

Had crank position senor replaced cause it was bad hoping it would help car start better. Had starter and battery tested and everything was good alternator was good to. Autozone put it on computer and bad crank sensor was bad. Still acting up. Do you have any idea what it could be?

What were the actual code numbers? The code doesn't tell you what to replace, only that the system thinks there is a problem on that circuit. If they found a crank sensor code, if the sensor is three wire, I check ref voltage--ground and signal before suspecting the crank sensor. If the sensor shares ref voltage or ground, Id have to check whatever shares those circuits.
What is the actual problem? How long since a tune-up?

The car would idle rough and than die when I would step on the gas. I changed the fuel filter and the crankshaft position sensor. It does idle a little better but there is still some roughness

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:
1. Defective spark plug.
2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4. False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.

CKP is located lower left side of engine, near oil filter on the 2.4L engine.
CKP (7X) is located lower right side of engine on the 3.4L and the CKP (24X) is located left front of engine on the 3.4L.
