Crankshaft replacement

We just replaced the crankshaft sensor and now the truck will attempt to start but not kick over. I took it and got it diagnosed that's why we replaced it. What should I look into next or is there something I should be looking at?

Can you post the codes that were retrieved that lead to them diagnosing a faulty crank sensor? Once we see the codes we can get a better idea to guide you in the right direction.

Have you had a hard start before replacing the crank sensor? What I mean by that is the vehicle cranks over but not start? There was a service bulletin about reprogramming the control module. Here is the information.

Hard start/no start condition during cold
Ambient temperatures after short hot
Soak period - 4.0l engine


FORD:
2002-2003 Explorer

MERCURY:
2002-2003 Mountaineer

ISSUE
Some 2002-2003 Explorer/Mountaineer vehicles equipped with the 4.0L engine, may exhibit a hard start/no start condition during cold ambient temperatures after a short hot soak period.

ACTION
Reprogram the power-train control module (PCM) to the latest calibration level using WDS release B37.12 and higher or B38.2 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B38 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website. If the concern is not resolved, perform normal diagnostics.

The first step would be to have the engine control module programmed to the latest software. You would need to find a re-programmer or take it in to the dealer for that procedure. If you have more information to add with the crank no start let us know please.
