Crank no start after running out of gas?

It is typical for the fuel pump to go out when run dry without fuel to help cool and lubricate the pump. When you turn the key on without starting the engine do you hear the pump run for about 5 seconds in the tank? if not, I would drop the tank and install a new unit here are the instructions for the job in the images below. The fuel tank must be removed first, and you must drain the tank.
